Web Series Proof Of Concept
Since the 1990s, there has been a notable increase in the representation of LGBTQIA+ characters in popular media. However, despite recent progress, these characters often tend to be portrayed in a somewhat one-dimensional manner. In many series and films, we frequently encounter a storyline featuring a white teenage boy initially struggling to come to terms with his sexuality, eventually falling in love with a fellow member of his sports group or class. As the plot unfolds, he grapples with acceptance, often facing conflict with his parents or friends who are resistant to acknowledging his truth.
In contrast, when we do come across alternative narratives, they frequently centre around a lesbian couple, often emphasizing explicit intimacy.
This observation has resonated with not only myself but also with many of my LGBTQIA+ friends, prompting a deeper exploration. It significantly influenced my choice of topic for my bachelor's thesis.
For my audio-visual project, I conceptualized a teaser based on an original web series idea I've been developing. I collaborated closely with Jelle Dorné, who played a pivotal role as director in shaping the creative vision of the shoot. Additionally, I received invaluable support from several fellow students from my course, including Seppe Hollanders as Director of Photography, and Hanne Van Horebeek for props and costumes.

STORY
Febe is 20 years old, a college student, and is enjoying her summer break. To earn some extra money, she works as a student in her town's Hema. One random day, she meets Emma, a new student at her work. After working together for a day, they both feel a connection and decide to get to know each other better. Febe is over the moon because Emma seems to have no issue with the fact that she is asexual. If only the same could be said for her roommate, Lieze.
